LCARS Prepares for 2010 Field Day
June 14, 2010: The Lake Country Amateur Radio Service is prepareing to participate in the annual ARRL Field Day event, where thousands of hams across the nation publicly demonstrate their emergency communication abilities. This year, the local amateur radio operators will set up their station in the park picnic shelter in Lacross, VA demonstrating the capability to locate and operate in varoius environments. Last year LCARS set up their field day station outside of the Walmart Super Center in South Hill, VA, where interested individuals could visit and learn more about this interesting hobby. The club will collectively operate under the clubs callsign W4LCA. Talk-in using the local repeaters.
The photographs below are from LCARS Field Day 2009, which demonstrate some of the innovation and participation that can be expected of ham radio operators during emergencies. You can find hams constructing emergency stations in parks, schools, backyards and shopping malls operating using only emergency power supplies.
If you are interested in visiting the LCARS Field Day 2010 event as an inerested spectator or operator, more information is available by contacting Sammy Simmons, this year's Field Day Coordinator.
